Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Museum in Thessaloniki Greece, was also the birth house of the father of modern Turkey. He was born in 1881. His father was Ali Rıza Efendi and his mother was Zübeyde Hanım. His grandfather Hafız Ahmet Efendi on his father’s side, was from Kocacık Yörüks (a nomadic shepherd tribe from Anatolia) that had come from Konya and Aydın and settled at Kocacık in Macedonia in the XIV – XV cent. His mother Zübeyde Hanım was the member of an old Turkish family that had settled in the town of Langaza near Salonika (Thessaloniki).
Today the memorial house of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is located next to the Turkish Consulate. It is a three-floor house with a courtyard built before 1870. Before the capture of Thessaloniki by the Greek Army in 1912, this district was known as "Koca Kasım Paşa district". In 1935 the authorities in Thessaloniki donated the house to the Turkish state, which later converted it into a museum. Since then the object and its interior were several times renovated.
In 1981 a replica of the house was built in Ankara and in Bitola city Republic of Macedonia there is a memorial room dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Bitola museum.
