Edessa (Greek - Έδεσσα, until 1923: Vodena, Voden), is a capital of the Pella regional unit in northern Greece. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in this part of the Balkan Peninsula, mainly due to its waterfalls. There are seven waterfalls falling from a high rocks. Karanos is the largest and most popular.
The name of Edessa until 1923 was Voden (Vodena, Cyrillic: Воден) and in literal translation means “wet city”. The Greek name Ἔδεσσα (Édessa) means "tower in the water".
